Queen Margaret
Queen Margaret was born about 1045, perhaps in Hungary, and she died in Edinburgh on the 16th of November, 1093.
Margaret belonged to the Saxon royal family of England. She was brought up in the Hungarian court where her father, Edward, was in exile.
When William the Conqueror defeated England at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, Edward’s widow and his children escaped to Scotland.
Malcolm III gave a place of safety to Margaret’s brother, the Anglo-Saxon prince Edgar the Aetheling.
Although she was a religious woman, Malcolm III, Malcolm Canmore, King of Scotland, took Margaret as his second wife.
