Children from Meadowburn Primary School, Bishopbriggs and Minister for Gaelic, Dr Alasdair Allan, launch resource

9 February 2012

A new resource ,"Mar a chuala mise e", and drama tour was unveiled by children from Meadowburn Primary School, Bishopbriggs and the Minister for Learning with responsibility for Gaelic, Dr Alasdair Allan.

"Mar a Chuala Mise e" (As I heard It) is a collection of traditional tales and, as well as being a useful resource in itself, stories from the collection will be brought to life in the form of drama.

Storlann developed the book in partnership with their Irish counterparts, the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment.

The two agencies came together as a means of maximising resources and the books use the same stories, illustrations and cover, but are printed in Scottish Gaelic for Scottish schools and in Irish for Irish schools.

The first year saw the compilation of the book and in the second year some of the stories were brought to life by the Gaelic drama group "Meanbh-chuileag", which works under the auspices of Fèisean nan Gaidheal, and this is them as they begin their national tour. In all, it is hoped to visit 50 Gaelic medium units across Scotland.
