Fàilte gu Ceumannan air-loidhne. Ceumannan is a lively, new Gaelic learners’ course for use in secondary schools.
The materials you will find on this website are complementary to the school textbook. You will
find a range of materials to enhance learning and fluency: a talking dictionary, listening extracts and songs covering
the new language in each module of the book. There are also video clips and downloadable worksheets to aid the
consolidation of vocabulary and encourage the use of Gaelic amongst secondary school learners. The course
is tailored to A Curriculum for Excellence and will provide Gaelic learners with the opportunity to fulfill
the experiences and outcomes.
The most important documents you will need for the course are listed below. Please read on though, there is plenty more information after this!
In the Ceummanan book, a listening extract is usually identified with the audio icon.
The Earrannan èisteachd listening extracts are as detailed in the book and are available on each of the Modal pages on this website.
Each small listening extract is a different sound file. Eg C1-1-1-1.mp3 : Ceumannan 1, Modal 1, Aonad 1, Extract 1. Each file is displayed in a list within the Flash Media Player.
You can start at any file in the list and choose whether to pause after each one, or let it play automatically.
To play and pause the media player, click on the small triangle (or II sign).
The use of ICT is very important at all stages of A Curriculum for Excellence and pupils are encouraged to develop their computer skills by using the online dictionary, listening extracts and using social networking tools such as GLOW. Pupils may also post their own interesting pieces of work and video clips of plays, songs etc made in class to give them a wider audience and a feeling of inclusion.
To ensure that children have the widest access to multimedia facilities on this and related websites, you should check that your computers have up to date web browsers installed. These include Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Firefox 2 and 3, Safari 3 and 4 and Google Chrome. Your computers should be set to a minimum of 1024x768 resolution.
Please use the Ceumannan section on GLOW. It would be great if some schools using Ceumannan could conduct an online meeting using GLOW meet.
You should also give pupils the opportunity to use online services such as YouTube, Flickr and Twitter and advise them regarding the safe use of such services. Over the next few months, the site will continue to grow but only if you use it!
